Canada has a massive bear population with tons of opportunity in several different provinces. Jordan says he is getting ready to pursue black bears in Alberta, but is waiting until mid to late May when the big boars really start to show their faces. Jordan says he does some baiting, however, because he is a rifle hunter and the show focuses on long range shooting, he tends to do more DIY, spot and stalk style hunting with bears out to 500 or 600 yards. It's very challenging, Jordan says. For that kind of hunt, the .300 Win Mag is his go-to caliber. In reality, Jordan says the .300 Win Mag is his all-purpose go-to across the board. He talks about the versatility of the .300 Win Mag across all of North America and beyond and how when paired with good ammo and good optics there is virtually nothing you can't take with it. As it relates to optics, good glass is a huge part of long range shooting success. Jordan talks Huskemaw scopes and turrets, and his preference when sighting in his rifles. Zeroing at 200 yards, he explains how the turret system he uses is simple, precise and user friendly and when zeroed correctly allows the user to dial their shot in with accuracy, providing more confidence when sending lead down range. Jordan will also briefly talk about long range shooting positions and the importance of finding a solid position and rest before taking a long shot.
Finally, hailing from a land of giants, Jordan talks whitetail hunting in Alberta. With a reputation for monster whitetails, Jordan says that Alberta certainly is home to some incredible deer. He discusses a CWD outbreak from 10 years ago and the response to it that set back deer hunting and has required a decade of rebuilding. However, he notes that just this past hunting season in 2019 he was encouraged to begin to see the return of the caliber of bucks again that Alberta has always been known for. Along those lines, he talks about an incredible non-typical whitetail taken by a friend and his personal preferences when it comes to selecting shooter bucks.
