With his attention focused on western big game, his home property can sit undisturbed for a couple of months, which is just the way he likes it. By the time he wraps up his western hunts and is ready to chase whitetails in October, Randy says the pressure on the property has been at a minimum and the deer haven’t been stressed. That creates the ideal environment to step back into and maximize success. Randy also talks early season velvet bucks and the small window hunters have to get their shot at one.
Randy will also highlight the work that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does and the ways in which he and other outdoorsmen and women are contributing to this worthy cause. So many people are impacted by cancer and it’s especially devastating for children. Several years ago, with a desire to do as much as they could to help out St. Jude, Randy says they held a small 3D archery tournament to raise money. That first event raised several thousand dollars and, in the years since, they have also added a banquet with auction to the event. This year’s benefit just wrapped up and they were able to raise $140,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The outdoor community has really rallied around this cause and this event. Randy says they reach out to virtually everyone in the outdoors for donations and items to auction off. Plus, hunting and outdoor personalities come to the event to support the cause. He highlights what a great feeling it is to be able to contribute to the hospital and to help kids that are fighting for their lives. Randy says if others want to get involved to reach out through social media as it’s a great thing to be a part of.
