The 2018 F-150 3.0-liter Power Stroke® diesel with a standard SelectShift® 10-speed automatic transmission is incredibly efficient, boasting a 30-mpg highway rating. That’s 3-0, thirty, no typo. What! When you are towing and hauling frequently, fuel economy is important, you don’t want a gas guzzler that’s going to bankrupt you at the pump. Travis tells Jim and Trav that while the unloaded fuel economy is impressive, it really shines when under load. It’s also plenty powerful with best-in-class 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft. of torque. To top it off, it has best-in-class towing of 11,400 pounds and a payload of 1,940 pounds. So, drivers get the muscle they need and can still keep it cost effective to drive.
Travis says that many listeners may be familiar with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel, offered in Ford’s Super Duty trucks. That same Ford powertrain team designed and engineered this brand new 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 diesel engine and built it for the needs of F-150 customers. It also gets the same 100,000-mile warranty, just like the diesel engine in the Super Duty. Travis says that this gives consumers even more power of choice, as Ford now has six different powertrains available in the F-150.
Part of engineering this fuel efficient, diesel towing machine is its construction, more specifically the F-150’s high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body, that was introduced in 2015. Travis points out that this aluminum-alloy body is still bolted to a high strength steel frame. With the weight savings, it opened the door to reinvest that gain into new technology, improved towing and payload and ultimately, the outstanding fuel economy you see now.
Travis tells Jim and Trav that the 2018 F-150 is tougher, smarter and more capable, plus they are serious about delivering on what it means to truly be “Built Ford Tough”. As mentioned before, “Built Ford Tough” isn’t just a slogan or catchy marketing line, it’s a high standard to which Ford holds its vehicles. Travis says that this new model endured torture testing and was highly engineered to deliver what customers are looking for.
