Outdoor Sportsman Group is at the forefront of outdoor programming with an impressive roster of hunting, fishing, shooting and outdoor themed television shows. New advancements in technology means people are changing the way they consume content every day and Mitch says that as a company, Outdoor Sportsman Group is invested in and committed to evolving and developing technology to provide the best content possible through a variety of different platforms. Aside from traditional television viewership, Mitch highlights MyOutdoorTV and its growing presence on platforms like ROKU, Amazon, DIRECTV, Sling and more which makes outdoor programming more readily accessible from your computer, phone, tablets and devices. Because of the huge amount of content put out on a daily basis, Mitch says it’s impossible for a person to be able to watch everything, so the MyOutdoorTV app provides an excellent way to go back and watch all of your favorite shows or search out the things that interest you the most.
The programming on Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and World Fishing Network is rooted in the hardcore hunt, shoot, fish kind of shows that people expect. Mitch says that producers and independent producers work hard and are motivated to provide this kind of great content. However, Mitch says they also look for programming that is unique and different like “Wicked Tuna” and “Wild Boar Fever”. Hunting in Europe looks different than it does in the United States and driven boar hunts like those on “Wild Boar Fever” have really piqued the interest of Americans. Mitch says initially he was a bit skeptical about how well “Wild Boar Fever” would be received here in the U.S., but ultimately says the culture, history, reverence for the animal and experience of the hunt are all themes that are interesting for American viewers. Mitch will also highlight “Deer Week” on Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel which kicks off on September 17th. Deer Week is exactly what it sounds like, 7 days of round-the-clock deer hunting programming. Hosting this year’s event will be Lee & Tiffany Lakosky, well known and respected hosts of “CRUSH” on Outdoor Channel. Mitch says there will be a lot of interesting deer-oriented content but also encourages everyone to check out www.DeerWeek.com for access to an extensive amount of hunting tips, gear suggestions, recipes and more.
As hunters, anglers and outdoorsmen and women, we are all brought together by a common thread – our passion for the outdoor lifestyle, respect for the animals we pursue, dedication to conservation and more. Mitch says that uniting people and reminding them that we are all on the same team is important. He’ll discuss the negative forces at play that want to infringe on our ability to hunt, fish, shoot and recreate and how a decline in hunter participation puts the model of conservation here in the U.S. at risk based on the financial impact and the amount of resources that we as hunters, anglers and shooters provide toward conservation efforts. Mitch says that at the network, they are committed to conservation and growing participation. The female demographic of this lifestyle is growing, but Mitch says he believes there is an untapped market that needs some focus which is men in their 40’s who have at some point veered away from the outdoors. He says now is the time to get these people back into hunting, fishing and shooting because, not only is it a great lifestyle, but they also have the financial means necessary to support the industry with the licenses they purchase, trips they take and gear they buy. Ultimately, Mitch says that as a company they fight the good fight every day because they wholeheartedly believe in hunting, shooting and fishing as a great foundation for this country. Furthermore, he highlights the bonds that are built through spending time afield together as well as the life lessons that can be learned from these experiences.
