Listen in as Steve joins the broadcast this week to talk all things big game hunting. He’ll start by highlighting some great elk hunts from his clients and team members at Steve’s Outdoor Adventures this season in British Columbia. He’ll talk about the caliber of animals that B.C. offers and what makes the hunting there top notch. Then Steve will discuss the versatility and capability of the .300 Win Mag and explain why that would be his choice if he could only have one rifle. Furthermore, he highlights the value in investing in quality ammunition, like the handcrafted custom ammunition from Pendleton Ammunition.
Steve will also talk about what he sees as the different tiers of big game hunting from deer all the way up to sheep. Tier one consists of white-tailed deer, mule deer and antelope as they are widely available, easily accessible and affordable for most hunters. The second tier, Steve says, would be a black bear hunt. Next, Steve says it would likely be larger challenges like elk, followed by moose. Moving into the more challenging hunts, Steve notes that goats would be his next tier for hunting, followed by sheep hunting at the tip of the pyramid. Any time you decide to hunt mountain animals, Steve says, it’s going to require more of you. Not only does it require more of the hunter physically, but goat and sheep hunts also require a significant financial investment. Steve talks about the different tiers of big game hunting and what makes each one unique.
Outside of running several companies and hosting a television show, Steve also enjoys giving back. His Ponderosa Ranch is home to some incredible trophy elk that he has never even hunted. Instead, he saves that incredible resource for wounded veterans and kids that are terminally ill or have life threatening conditions. Steve enjoys being able to guide these people on hunts for great animals and provide them with experiences they will never forget. A big part of that effort is done in conjunction with the Camo Dreams, and Steve talks about that great organization.
