From "Kansas Cat Man" to "Mountain Cat", CatDaddy experienced Yellowstone this past week. While the region is known for its incredible trout fishing, CatDaddy was still looking for whiskers. As it turns out, finding the elusive Montana catfish is like finding a Sasquatch. While catfish can be found in a sizable portion of the country, they are more scarce in the west and despite his best efforts, CatDaddy didn't have much luck hooking any western cats. It's a beautiful area, he says, but no matter how deep in the woods or how high in the mountains you go, there just aren't any catfish. Instead, he saw more moose, bears, wolves and buffalo than he's ever seen before and he couldn't wait to get back to the catfish rich waters of the midwest.
With his vacation ending, CatDaddy is now back in the Holy Land where his bean hole is nearby and he's ready to make up for lost time. Although the weather is hot, it's not stifling the catfish bite. Don't sit around and wait, get out there, he says! With the water nice and warm, CatDaddy says baits with good scent dispersal are great bets as they will be hard for the cats to resist. Using fermented beans is also a great summertime strategy. Get those soybeans in 5-gallon buckets, fill with water, add any catfish loving extras and let them get to work fermenting under the hot summer sun. CatDaddy says he's been out stirring his beans with a boat paddle, getting them ready to go so he can start chumming the water as soon as his boat is river ready again. Listen in!
