Randy joins The Revolution this week to talk about the new competitive hunting series! In discussing the challenges of co-owning a piece of ground, Randy notes that tensions can run high among the co-owners as they are hunting and chasing the same deer, working on the same food plots and hashing out who really does the most work. So, a friendly competition was born to determine who really is the "King of the Raven" among the owners.
Working within the limits of their 1,200-acre farm, the co-owners divided the property into three 400-acre tracts. Each owner is essentially their own team captain and they decide the outcome of their fall hunting season based on how much work they put into taking care of their piece of land. The 6-part series, "King of the Raven" shows each competitor's approach to management from food plot care to trail cameras, keeping up with the deer on their parcel and more. It's really a blank slate for each person, Randy says, and they have the opportunity to do whatever they want in order to be as successful as they can during the hunting season. At the end of the season, the winning team enjoys a hefty prize and bragging rights.
Randy says that the competition is as much about squaring off with his co-owners as it is competing with himself. In hunting, you get in what you put out and he is eager to improve the property and reap the benefits. To that end, he notes that shooting deer on property he owns is unlike taking deer anywhere else. It's more rewarding, he says, because of the amount of time and energy you invest into creating something like that.
The success he has found on his property "The Raven" is something that should encourage and inspire other hunters looking to put in some sweat equity on their own land. Randy says he understands what a big undertaking it can be, and his initial goal with "The Raven" was to show their approach to management and development. Regardless of property size, big or small, he notes that the same projects that they implemented can be recreated on other properties so that other hunters can enjoy the same kind of success.
Be sure to watch this fun and entertaining new series, "King of the Raven", airing on Outdoor Channel, Tuesdays at 10:30 pm ET.
