Last year, Matt Drury joined the show and talked with Jim and Trav about purchasing his first farm and the goals he had of turning it into an exceptional piece of hunting property. This year, the overall plan remains the same, however the property has changed. Matt talks about why he sold his first property and how putting in some time and sweat equity in that piece of land helped him purchase an even better parcel. The purchase of land can be an intimidating investment, but Matt discusses the benefits of taking that leap of faith and what he has learned throughout the process.
Given that he sold his property last year, Matt was left without land to hunt during the big game season, outside of a couple of leases. Overall, he notes that it was a tough season for him as he wasn't able to run into the big mature deer he was hoping for. However, hunters have to ride those highs and lows, and Matt is ready to move past last year and prepare for the coming season. He discusses his plans for property improvement this spring, starting with some controlled burning and shed hunting. Based on the deer sign, sheds and even a few deadheads, Matt is optimistic about what is to come for him on this new dirt.
For anyone else that is gearing up for the next hunting season, Matt talks about all the great content that Drury Outdoors is putting out to help others be more successful. Beyond their television shows, they also produce a weekly podcast and have created a powerful app for hunters called DeerCast. Matt says that DeerCast is so much more than just an app or a predictor of deer movement. In reality, it's a powerful teaching tool that offers access to informative articles, videos with tips and tactics, weather forecasts, and their revolutionary DeerCast Track tool. In addition, Matt talks about the latest addition to the DeerCast app which is maps. The DeerCast mapping tools allow hunters to focus on their ground, set waypoints, create and manage food plots, measure distances, access parcel data, check the wind, view live doppler radar, and record GPS tracks.
