Today’s Youth: They’re Not Lost - Just Forgotten - So Text Them!
The trend is unmistakable and hard to swallow: nature based recreation, such as hunting and fishing, is being replaced by electronics and the “Internet King,” Al Gore, is to blame. Well, partly, or at least he proclaims!
It began with the very first television which, subsequently, sunk in, took hold of our leisure time, and gave us the modern day sedentary athlete. By the way, that translates to…lazy ass! Fast forward to present times and wham-o, our lives are inundated with tablets, smartphones, something called a Wii and even my coffee pot, now, requires a USB cable.
Come to think of it, it’s crazy, because all of these so-called “technological advances” are designed with a specific purpose in mind, to babysit. Imagine how ghastly and unpleasant it must have been before cell phones came along and we had to actually sit, alone in solitude, in our treestands, and listen to nature, uninterrupted? Oh my God, the horror, and it even has a name, the 90’s! So, why is this disturbing? Aside from obesity, having a pale complexion and not knowing what color the sky is, I’d venture a guess that a hunting tag or fishing permit, for your child, is a far safer and cheaper alternative to depression and rehab centers later on in life. Yep, it’s proven that “Good Ole Mother Nature” is more effective at fighting depression, family conflicts, high functioning asperger’s, autistic adolescents and substance abuse, than any medication that’s currently on the market! And here’s something else to consider. An active hunting and fishing lifestyle teaches us numerous disciplines: #1. Respect. #2. Communication. And finally, #3. To be good stewards of our natural resources.
Well, to conclude, if we don’t encourage an outdoor lifestyle, for our kiddos, they won’t care about an outdoor lifestyle. And if they don’t care about the outdoors, they won’t give a damn about conservation! Oh, and in regards to Al, sure, you invented the internet just as “The Situation” created cool.
Hugs, Handshakes and Happy Hunting!

Travis Ferguson
Trav is a small town kid driven by hunting, fishing, rock/honky-tonk music, cold beer and his wife and kids. Being raised in a rural area surrounded by wildlife and lacking the luxurious amenities of big city life might be challenging to some; however, to Trav, it was an utter blessing. From his inception on, Trav has spent his life outdoors, he was taught at a very young age to hunt and fish and over the years these skills have molded him into a self-sufficient outdoorsman that strives to live a sustainable and God fearing lifestyle. When Trav isn’t behind the mic he’s either in the woods or on the water sharing his passion and love for the outdoors with his family and friends. So, don't bother searching for him online and you couldn’t pay him to own an iPhone, but let me reassure you of this: If there’s hunting and fishing, cold beer on tap and shaving isn’t required, he’s certainly not too far. What you see is what you get with Trav and to sum him up is simple, he doesn’t ask for a lot and he’ll never need much, a rifle, a bow, the love of his good looking wife and to be all that his children will ever need!
