A static and lifeless spread can be problematic for waterfowl hunters, after all, birds aren’t motionless, and your spread should show some signs of life. When it comes to movement, MOJO Outdoors knows a thing or two about creating an appealing spread. Joining us this week with a closer look at using motion to your advantage is Nate Metcalf with MOJO Outdoors and “MOJO TV” airing Saturdays at 3:30 pm ET on Sportsman Channel.
Waterfowl blinds and pits come in all shapes and sizes and use a variety of different materials. However, constructing a blind isn’t something that should be done carelessly. If you nail your concealment, chances are you’ll bag more birds so it’s worth the investment to do it right! John Gechter with Rainin’ Skies Waterfowl in Denver, Colorado is a died in the wool duck and goose hunting guru and he joins us this week to talk concealment.
So, you prepared wild game for friends or family that don’t eat it regularly and they are hesitant. But why? The number one reason people won’t try wild game is their perception that it will taste “gamey”. Birds are notorious for their intense flavors that can be off-putting to some diners. Ducks, geese, pheasants, turkeys and more – birds can use a little love in the kitchen to make them more tender and delicious. Joining us on The Revolution is Hans Hummel, President of Hi Mountain Seasonings and trust me when I tell you, this man knows flavor!
As a hunter, do you carry a handgun as well as your bow or long gun?
Eric Rice, Operations and Sales Manager for Sticky Holsters joins us to talk about selecting the right handgun and holster to make every day carry more practical and comfortable.
Selecting a concealed carry gun is a multifaceted endeavor. While many people walk into their gun shop with a good idea of what brand or model they want, Eric says you should leave those thoughts at the door and instead begin your search by answering a couple of questions. First, what are you confident with? Next, what features are you looking for? After narrowing down the field of contenders based on those two questions, you can really take a closer look at the guns that meet those criteria. From there you should try them out, handle them and shoot them before making a purchase. All too often, decisions about the handgun you purchase are made in haste and done based on a friend or family member’s opinion, a gun you think looks cool or other outside influences. What is right for one person may be entirely unpractical for the next, so purchasing a handgun is a personal decision that should be made informatively.
Your odds of winning the lottery, becoming famous, playing sports professionally or earning the title of President of the United States are all about the same – a big fat goose egg! It’s an exclusive club that actually achieves, or lucks into, any of the aforementioned situations. What isn’t exclusive though, something you can do with 100% odds, is becoming a hunter.
Are you using a new rifle, new scope or maybe even both this season? Maybe you are trying new ammo. Perhaps your rifle and scope have been bouncing around in your back seat and you aren’t confident that it is properly zeroed anymore. In any case, it’s essential to sight in your rifle before you go afield. Winging it in this department is a bad idea and can lead to wild shots, clean misses or unfortunate shot placement that ultimately could wound an animal. All of those scenarios can and should be avoided by simply sighting in your hunting setup.
November is here, and deer hunters are ready to buckle down and fill their tags! The rut is the most highly anticipated part of the season with whitetails seeking, chasing, and breeding and hunters close behind trying to capitalize on the activity. Helping us get rut ready with tips and advice for tag filling success is none other than whitetail ace Michael Waddell. Michael is the co-host of “Michael Waddell’s Bone Collector” Sundays at 10:30 pm ET and “Realtree Road Trips” Thursdays at 9:00 pm ET, both seen on Outdoor Channel. Plus, you can catch loads of hunting action with Michael Waddell on MyOutdoorTV.
I’m fresh off the sights and smells of last weekend, where perfect plumes of smoke drifted from my new Weber Summit Charcoal Series Grill and I cooked up a delicious pork butt low and slow. Whoever said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach was right on! But I can’t be bought with sweets, I’m 99% carnivore and I require meat – protein preferably smoked or grilled to perfection. A man who knows much more about this than I do is Kevin Kolman, Weber Grill Master. He graces us with his presence and knowledge once again, and this week he’ll school us on all things smoking on the Weber Summit Charcoal Grill. Let’s do it!
Do you remember the first deer you ever shot?
Derrick Ratliff, President and Founder of Horizon Firearms joins The Revolution this week fresh off of a Texas whitetail hunt with his wife and 5-year old son. Hunting on the same property that he has since his own youth, Derrick says they set up and hunted out of a pallet blind. As most hunters understand, a certain amount of anticipation builds as you watch a deer come in, wondering if you are going to get a shot on it. Their hunt had plenty of anticipation as they watched the deer walk down a tree line, make a scrape out of shooting range, walk too quickly through an opening for a shot, and finally making another scrape before a shot opportunity presented itself. In the end, Derrick’s son was able to bag a tremendous 8-point buck. (Congrats Rhyder!)
From the get go, Yamaha’s purpose-built Wolverine X2 ferociously clawed its way to the top of the pack and immediately redefined the Side-by-Side market and set a new precedent in intelligent features, unheard of capabilities and class leading comfort. Not to mention, the X2 represents, scratch that, epitomizes, pure off-roading bliss.
